Since Miles retired we’ve been fortunate enough to have extended stays in various places. In homes! We get to cook, eat, exercise, mingle, shop, socialize, and truly live like locals. It’s different then our previous travels and I wanted to showcase these new residencies and experiences…
Our hometown is Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. A Washington DC neighborhood and charming port-side small town in its own right. It’s East Coast stunning. Historic. Walkable. Fun. We both grew-up in Virginia. It’s very much home. Miles’ family actually goes back 11 generations. And most importantly, it’s where I met my Virginian nearly 10 years ago. We were introduced by a mutual friend, smack dab in the middle of our two townhouses. It was at the local restaurant-bar (think Cheers) that was always full of neighbors and great conversations.
Grandma lives in the heartland, so we often spend time at Terra Bloom. A family house across the river from Grandma that I renovated over a decade ago. It’s serene, slow, calm and overlooks the Mighty Mississippi.
And our final pied-ร -terre is my parents Las Vegas bungalow. They bought it in between business trips near a decade ago and rarely use it anymore. So we step-up to help! lol. We’re up in the mountains overlooking Fremont Street and the Strip. We’re in Sun City as opposed to Sin City. It’s a 55 and over community โ I’m still in my 40’s so Miles is my ticket in! lol. We can see all the glitz of Vegas from the calm of our picture windows in tranquil community. And we’re only a short uber ride from world class dining, entertainment, and spas.
I joke that we snowbird to all these places. But the truth is we haven’t quite figured out how to properly snowbird with the timing and the weather. It’s really more that we’re living-like-locals in all these spots when we’re there.
Anyhow, I wanted to dedicate some pages so you could see what we’re up-to where, and if you’d also like to give residing in another location a try. I can’t tell you how interesting it is to me to immerse myself in the very different cultures of these spots across America. It’s so fascinating to me that these places are all in the United States but have distinctly different cultures and feels. Yet all the comforts of home.
